Walker Fire staff go the extra mile during year of fundraising
From taking part in the St Catherine’s Moonlight and Memories Walk, to hosting cake sales and dress down days in the office – workmates at one Preston firm have enjoyed a year of fundraising in aid of the hospice.
Staff at Walker Fire, which specialises in fire protection equipment, voted to support the charity throughout 2017 as an employee has experienced the care provided by St Catherine’s with his own family.
They have now donated £1,437.73 from various fundraising activities, including seven colleagues taking on the hospice’s Moonlight and Memories Walk in the summer.
Customer service manager Kelly Haydon said: “We started the year with coffee mornings and dress down days, and we’ve also held raffles and took part in Christmas Jumper Day, so there’s been something for everyone to get involved in.
“It was a good laugh though and there was a really lovely atmosphere on the night. It was great to cross the finish line as a team.”
She added: “We also held a Pink Day at the office where we wore our Moonlight and Memories Walk t-shirts and had balloons and cakes, which was fun. The fundraising has offered an opportunity for everyone to come up with ideas to help support St Catherine’s in a variety of ways. We’ve really enjoyed it.”
St Catherine’s fundraising officer Hayley Jackson said: “Staff at Walker Fire have kept in touch with us throughout their fundraising activities and challenges, and it’s been wonderful to hear about all of the different ways in which they’ve come together to raise funds for the hospice.
“We’re incredibly grateful for their amazing efforts – especially to the team who took on the 10-mile Moonlight and Memories Walk, which is no mean feat! They really went the extra mile for St Catherine’s, and we’d like to say a huge ‘thank you’ to all of the workmates who contributed to the year of fundraising.”
