Verification of Expected Death - June - St Catherine's Hospice

Verification of Expected Death – June

Our specialist Knowledge Exchange Team delivers high quality education through interactive training sessions. Our study sessions and courses are continually reviewed and updated, with new subjects added regularly to provide the most up-to-date guidance and expert advice, and to facilitate topical and diverse discussions amongst health care professionals.

It is essential that the care provided after death is responsive, providing person-centred care for the patient, their family and friends.

The ‘Verification of Expected Death for Registered Nurses’ session will enable the nurse to:

• Understand the definition of expected death
• Understand the difference between verification and certification
• Have an awareness of the correct procedure for verifying death related to Covid-19 and how to check the vital signs
• Discuss the importance of respecting dignity, religious and cultural needs of the patient and those important to them.
• Gain knowledge of the record keeping and legal requirements
• Understand and complete the competency assessment tool
• Recognise the importance of providing bereavement support information to family and friends.
