Get Involved with St Catherine’s Through Your School or College

Moss Side schoolWe love working with schools and colleges across the area who generously help us with fundraising in many different ways.

We are also passionate about working with them to raise awareness of the reality of hospices like St Catherine’s and the importance of the services we provide. We don’t want anyone to be scared of a hospice, and work hard to promote understanding of what St Catherine’s is – and also what it isn’t. We believe it’s really important that the next generation knows about the hospice and the work we do.

There’s several ways your school, class or college could involved – see below and contact Norman Cutler, norman.cutler@stcatherines.co.uk or call 01772 629171 to find out more. We look forward to hearing from you!

Assemblies

We love visiting local schools to talk to students in person about St Catherine’s and the work the hospice does for local people. There’s plenty of opportunity to ask questions and we hope they find it informative, inspiring and reassuring.

Contact us if you’d like us to come and share our presentation with you.

Organise an Event

We’d love it if, after hearing all about our work, you might like to do something to help raise funds for the hospice.

This could be anything from a non-uniform day to a sponsored silence – and the more pupils you can get on board the better!

Our biggest school fundraiser of the year takes place each Christmas, when classrooms across the area are invited to host their very own Santa Dash in support of St Catherine’s.

It ties in with our annual Santa Dash at the hospice, but is a chance for a school or college to host one themselves and perhaps give it their own personal twist, like Christ the King Academy who organised a Santa-themed obstacle course in the school gym. It’s also an extremely fun way to celebrate the festive season!

Come in for a Tour

While we are more than happy to come out and visit you, we also think it’s important for classes to come and visit the hospice so they can see for themselves. We can show you around the many different things that make up the hospice and you can meet some of the patients and families we care for.

The hospice is set within St Catherine’s Park which features a wetland and woodland reserve and a pretty sensory garden, as well as The Mill Café. We can make a whole morning or afternoon of your visit – taking a wander around our grounds to see what wildlife we can find and having a drink and a snack at The Mill, as well as visiting the main hospice.

Take on an Enterprise Challenge

We rely on the local community to survive, so we’re always happy to give back in whatever way we can. An enterprise challenge is a win-win situation since you can help us raise vital funds, while we share some of our fundraising expertise to help you succeed in your business studies.

We can come in and discuss ideas; share knowledge and expertise; and offer advice on how to get the best out of your challenge.

Volunteer Some Time

We are always looking for new volunteers to help out with our work. If you are 16 or over and would interesting in giving some time to St Catherine’s please click here.
