Story

Carol passed away peacefully at St Catherine’s hospice on 4th July 2025.

A loving mother, wife, Grandma, sister, auntie – Carol dedicated her life to helping others as a social worker, manager of the Emergency Duty Team and latterly Emergency Planning at Lancashire County Council.

I have set up this tribute page in memory of Carol. She touched so many lives with her kindness, generosity and compassion, and will be dearly missed by us all.

It is a space for you to share your memories of a very special lady. Her final days were spent at St Catherine’s hospice, expertly cared for by the wonderful staff which provided great comfort to her family. Carol enjoyed many visits to the Mill cafe with her friends over the years, catching up over coffee and cake.

Donations to the hospice are most welcome if you wish to.

With all our love and best wishes
Jody, Justin, Sarah and Sarah-Jayne xx

Carol was a wonderful person and manager. Her energy and dedication was infectious. I have fond memories of EDT, ESSA, and emergency response group. Carol was the key element of all these projects. Carol was a strong person who was an innovative manager supportive to all her staff and it was a privilege to also call her a friend. Will be greatly missed.

Carol was a good friend for 54 years, first meeting at the Albany squash club. I have some very happy memories of the four of us. Over the past 7 years we became closer, going out for coffee & lunch & putting the world to rights. Going out for lunch with her friends was a major part of her week. Latterly I got to know the true Carol, caring, loyal, stoic, appreciative & full of love for her family. She needed to know what was what, that was the one way she could deal with her diagnosis. Carol I miss you.x

Carol and I first met 50 years ago. We used to prop up the bar at Park Hall squash club whilst our other halves ran around court. Yes, she drank in those days and introduced me to whisky, her favourite beverage of the time. Whilst she gave alcohol up in latter years, I’ve carried the flag for us both ☺️. She’s been a wonderful supporting friend over the years. We both had two boys, not much difference in ages, and we had a number of great holidays together both here in the UK and abroad, with all the families in tow. When Drew died, we saw each other regularly for lunch, usually at St Catherine’s, or at garden centres, which she looked forward to very much. Even when she struggled towards the end, she wouldn’t give up her lunchtimes out with friends. I think that having a wide circle of friends kept her going. She was always a very strong person emotionally, and even in the face of adversity, she never really gave up hope. She loved her family dearly, and her grandchildren were the light of her life. We will all miss her very much. I was priveleged to be able to be with her almost to the end. I valued her friendship, she was a rock. Rest in peace Carol, you deserve it. Much love xx

Carol was a remarkable woman whose strength, kindness, and leadership has left a lasting mark on me. It was a privilege to work with her on the EDT.

Carol was very efficient, keeping everything running smoothly. She had a sharp mind and fought the EDT corner and helped equip us with all that we needed. But what truly set her apart was not just her capability — it was her character. Carol led with integrity, firmness and compassion. She was kind, considerate, and always made time to listen.

Even as she faced illness, Carol showed what true courage looks like. She bore her situation with quiet bravery.

Carol will be deeply missed — as a colleague, a leader, and a friend. But her memory and her legacy will live on.

Thank you, Carol, for everything.
