Chorley’s shop moves home

St Catherine’s Hospice’s popular Chorley charity shop has moved to larger premises in the town centre.

The store, which opened in High Street in October 1998 and has generated more than £1m in sales, has found a new home just across the road.

The mayor of Chorley, Coun Doreen Dickinson, joined the charity’s chief executive Stephen Greenhalgh, chair of trustees Cliff Hughes, and head of trading Rachel Hewitt along with staff, customers and volunteers, to officially open the shop at number 8 High Street this morning.

Rachel said: “Chorley is one of our busiest stores and the people of Chorley have always been incredibly supportive of the shop and the hospice.

“It’s a great location in the town centre, and we’ve moved across the road to offer our customers more space to shop in.

“The new premise offers more room for donations and stock, and will therefore hopefully help us to generate even more vital funds for St Catherine’s to continue its specialised care of people with life-shortening illnesses.”

The shop, which sells women’s, men’s and children’s clothing, as well as shoes, handbags, accessories, toys, games, and homeware, is one of three hospice shops in Chorley. The town is also home to a St Catherine’s furniture store in Clifford Street, and a book shop in Chapel Street.

Rachel added: “We have 30 volunteers helping to run Chorley’s High Street store, and we’re all very proud of the new shop. We’re looking forward to welcoming our loyal customers through the door, and I’d really encourage people to come down and see what’s on offer. There’s something for everyone.”
