Christian order provides cash boost for St Catherine’s
A Christian order which works to defeat leprosy around the world has been helping a charity closer to home by raising money for St Catherine’s Hospice.
The Military and Hospitaller Order of St Lazarus of Jerusalem – an ancient Christian order who looked after the sick in the Holy Land in the Middle Ages and continues its work with leprosy charities today – have raised £1,600 for the hospice so far this year.
The Baron of Fettenear Martin Thacker, who is Grand Prior of the order, visited Farrington for a service at St Catherine’s Church in the village, followed by a charity dinner at Farrington Lodge.
The latest instalment of £1,000 was raised at a garden party at St Catherine’s Church – where the order’s chaplain Father Simon Henry is also the parish priest.
