Couple reach dizzy heights in Kilimanjaro trek!
By Jade Taylorson
An adventurous pair scaled Africa’s highest mountain and raised an amazing £2,700 to support the work of St Catherine’s Hospice!
Michelle Foster and Martin Dawson set off on 22 January, hiking tirelessly for between six and eight hours each day and sleeping in tents on the side of the world-famous Mount Kilimanjaro.
At midnight on 28 January they set off on their final ascent and reached Uhuru Peak, at a staggering 19,341ft, at 6.30am.
All five people in their group successfully reached the top, a fantastic achievement given not only the physical challenge of the climb, but the altitude sickness they also had to contend with.
Michelle said: “It was a very humbling and rewarding experience for us. We could not have achieved this without the fantastic support of our team of porters and guides who made the trip a lifetime achievement for us.”
