Drama group to put on a wheely good show to support St Catherine’s Hospice

An amateur dramatics group will be putting on a wheely good show for St Catherine’s Hospice when they take part in the charity’s second Big Charity Bike Ride next month.
A total of 21 members of The Hall Players will be taking part in the event – 10 who will take on the 50 mile ‘Challenge Ride’ through the Fylde and Wyre Valleys, and 11 who will complete the 20-mile circuit of the Preston Guild Wheel.
The group – who have just come to the end of a run of comedy Ladies’ Day by Amanda Whittington at the Parish Hall in Fulwood – completed a group bike ride of the Guild Wheel last summer and had so much fun they were keen to do something similar this year.
This time the team, who range in age from 10 to 68, decided to combine it with fundraising for a local charity and began collecting sponsorship from audiences at their recent performances. So far they have raised an amazing £300.
Dominic Swarbrick, group chairman, said: “We’re all really looking forward to the event which will be a great opportunity to come together and do something different.
“People enjoyed the cycle ride so much last year, we decided the St Catherine’s Hospice Big Charity Bike Ride was the perfect event to sign up for – meaning we can show our support for the hospice at the same time.”
Dominic, whose firm T Snape Printers works regularly with the Lostock Hall hospice, added: “St Catherine’s is a wonderful local charity which does such amazing work for local people.
“Between us we’ll be riding a whopping 731 miles so we hope we can raise lots of money in sponsorship. We hope many more from the local community will also be inspired to join us!”
Lynne Whittaker, senior fundraiser at St Catherine’s Hospice, said: “We’re delighted to have the team from the Hall Players on board for the Big Charity Bike Ride.
“We’d love to hear from any other community groups or groups of friends and colleagues who might like to take on the challenge together. It could even inspire some good-natured rivalry and banter between you!
“Whichever way you do it, by signing up and taking part you’ll be raising vital funds to support our specialised care for people across Central Lancashire.”
The St Catherine’s Hospice Big Charity Bike Ride takes place on Sunday May 18th, featuring a 20-mile and a 50-mile route, each starting and finishing at Preston Grasshoppers Rugby Club. To registerclick hereor call 01772 629171.
