Hairdresser Christie makes beautiful wig to raise funds for St Catherine’s

A beautiful wig is being raffled off for St Catherine’s Hospice.

One of Christie Wilson’s customer’s wishes was that the proceeds should be donated to the charity which cared for her at the end of life.

The blonde wig with a root fade was designed by hairdresser Christie, from Chorley, for a family friend.

Christie is selling raffle tickets at £20 each with all proceeds donated to St Catherine’s, which provides specialist palliative and end-of-life care for people facing life-shortening illnesses like cancer and motor neurone disease at the Lostock Hall hospice and in people’s homes across Lancashire.

She said: “The lady’s health deteriorated before the wig was ready and just before she died she kindly asked that we use it to raise money for the hospice. I’ve sold quite a few raffle tickets but there are some left and whoever wins can do what they want with the wig.

“It cost £570 to make and the winner will receive a re-colour, if required, with a cutting, blending and styling of their choice and one after-care session.”

Christie, a self-taught wig maker, also specialises in hair integration, concentrating on extensions and hair loss as well as usual hairdressing work. She runs her own business Halo Hair Specialist which can be found on Facebook and Instagram.

Hayley James, community engagement officer at St Catherine’s Hospice, said: “We are continually overwhelmed by the generosity of our communities, and amazed by the variety of ways in which people show their support for St Catherine’s.

“I’d like to thank Christie, on behalf of everyone at the charity, for helping to carry out her customer’s wish of raising vital funds for our charity, so that we can continue to care for people now and in the future.”
