Spreading the word about St Catherine’s this Hospice Care Week
St Catherine’s Hospice is supporting Hospice Care Week this week, which for 2012 has the theme ‘be surprised’.
The hospice at Lostock Hall wants to use the national campaign – which runs from October 8 to 14 – to help break down commonly held myths about hospice care.
The campaign also aims to highlight the inspiring and personal way that hospice care helps patients with life-limiting illnesses add life to days, and the many different people who work together to provide our services. Our selection of photographs displayed here show the unique roles different staff members and volunteers play in delivering the best possible hospice care to our patients.
Jimmy Brash, director of care at St Catherine’s Hospice, said: “Hospice Care Week is a wonderful way to promote hospice care and the difference it makes to people with life-limiting illnesses and their families.
“Here at St Catherine’s we provide specialised palliative and end of life care for people with conditions like cancer, heart failure and Parkinson’s disease, alongside emotional support, complementary therapies and diversional activities. It is all care which allows people to live as fully and independently as possible.
“As the theme of Hospice Care Week is ‘be surprised’ we’d also like to use it as an opportunity to break down some of the misconceptions people hold about hospices and the services we provide.”
The public is invited to get involved and pledge their support to Hospice Care Week, a campaign co-ordinated by the Help The Hospices charity. Whether you have a connection to St Catherine’s or not, you’re invited to share something about yourself and pledge your support.
