St Catherine’s Hospice bags places in sought-after cycle ride

St Catherine’s Hospice is celebrating after bagging three places in a spectacular cycling challenge which has gitemn from the legacy of the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics.
The Lostock Hall charity is now on the hunt for three keen cyclists who would be proud to represent them in the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 event – raising as much money as possible as they pedal to support the work of the hospice.

The event takes place on Sunday August 10th 2014, setting off from the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London and following a 100-mile route on closed roads through the capital into Surrey’s stunning countryside.
Featuring leg-testing climbs and a route made famous by the world’s best cyclists at the London 2012 Olympics, it promises to be a memorable event for those taking part.
Emma Jacovelli, fundraiser at St Catherine’s Hospice, said: “We’re very excited St Catherine’s Hospice has been picked to receive three places in the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey. The ballot has now closed and competition for charity places was extremely tight so we’re extremely pleased to have been chosen.
“It promises to be an amazing event following in the wheels of world-famous cyclists, which we hope will be a brilliant opportunity for three of our biking-mad supporters. What we need now is to hear from keen riders who would relish the challenge, and can use their passion for pedalling to raise lots of cash to support the care St Catherine’s provides.”
Registration for the event is £210. This covers the cost of taking part only and goes straight to the event organisers. Anyone interested in one of the St Catherine’s Hospice places must also pledge to raise a further minimum sponsorship of £750.
All funds raised in sponsorship will go towards the £5m it costs to run the hospice’s services for people affected by life-limiting illnesses each year. St Catherine’s receives only just over a quarter of this total from the NHS – meaning the charity depends on the generosity of supporters to raise a staggering £3.7m every year.
Cyclists who would like to put their name forward for a place should email emma.jacovelli@stcatherines.co.uk or call her on 01772 629171 to register their interest and provide details of how much they can pledge in sponsorship.
The deadline for pledges is Monday November 25. Successful applicants will be informed on Friday November 29.
